ATHENS — As usual, Georgia will be without several players during spring practice after going through routine offseason procedures.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Smart said running back Branson Robinson, offensive tackle Beau Hughley, defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, tight end Pierce Spurlin and inside linebacker Smail He mentioned that players such as Mondon will not be able to participate this spring.
Defensive tackle Kristen Miller, wide receiver Lara Thomas, safety Malachi Starks, inside linebacker Chris Jones and defensive back DeMelo Jones will be limited this spring.
Robinson is still recovering from a torn patellar tendon suffered last August. He expects to be fully prepared for fall camp. With Robinson sidelined, Trevor Etienne, Roderick Robinson, Andrew Paul and Chauncey Bowens are expected to get more snaps. The Bulldogs need to replace their two leading rushers from last season, Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton.
Hughley redshirted as a freshman after signing with the University of Georgia as a four-star prospect in the 2023 signing class. He underwent surgery on his left shoulder to repair his torn labrum. Georgia returns starting left tackle Ernest Green. Experienced starting right tackle Xavier Truss also returns. Monroe Freeling will look to earn playing time, as will fellow 2023 offensive tackle Jamal Merriweather. Georgia will welcome five of its 2024 offensive line signees to the team this spring.
Spurlin will retire from football for medical reasons. He caught three passes for 60 yards as a freshman. Georgia will feature Oscar Delp, Lawson Lackey, Jaden Reddell and Colton Heinrich. Stanford transfer Benjamin Yurosek will arrive this summer.
Starks was an All-American for Georgia last season and started every game for Georgia. The Bulldogs have a lot of holes to fill in the secondary with Kamari Lassiter, Tykee Smith and Javon Bullard all leaving for the NFL. Dan Jackson, David Daniel-Sisavan, Jacorey Thomas, Jake Pope, Jonel Aguero, Justin Lett and KJ Bolden will compete for playing time this spring.
Georgia's spring practice begins Tuesday and concludes with G-Day on April 13th. The spring scrimmage begins at 1 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on SEC Network+/ESPN+.
