Dana White and Jake Paul have traded numerous verbal attacks against each other over the years, ever since Paul became involved in mixed martial arts.
Following the recent postponement of a much-hyped and prepared fight between Paul and boxing legend Mike Tyson, names of potential contenders to face the “problem boy” are beginning to emerge. Originally scheduled for July 20th at the massive AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, Paul's dream bout hit a snag last Friday when the 57-year-old Tyson suffered a recurrence of an ulcer. The health scare has led to the postponement of the show.
UFC President White has no interest in Paul's celebrity/influencer-type boxing career. The YouTuber-turned-professional boxer took up boxing in 2020 after making his amateur debut in 2018 and hasn't looked back since. Having watched Paul compete against several former UFC fighters and champions in his 10 fights (9-1), White is especially vehemently opposed to a matchup with Tyson.
“God, [I didn’t help pull that match off]Mr. White Fragrant On the Paul vs. Tyson fight: “Tyson will be 58 when this fight takes place. A nearly 60-year-old man should not be fighting a 27-year-old man, under any circumstances. Even if the opponent is Mike Tyson. It's ridiculous.”
“My biggest problem with Jake Paul and the way this has played out is that he actually fought someone with the same record, the same age, the same build, and lost in a crazy way. So they're not going to do that crazy thing again, right?”
Paul's first and only loss was a split decision against Tommy Fury in February 2023. The Cleveland native returned to mixed martial arts boxing shortly after, and bounced back with a unanimous decision win over longtime UFC veteran Nate Diaz the following August. Paul is currently on a three-fight win streak, with consecutive first-round knockout wins over Andre August and Ryan Borland.
The latest matchup is one that White predicted and Paul thinks should continue, especially if viewers continue to tune in.
“If I could keep getting paid, right? 100%. [do it]”If people are stupid enough to pay for that kind of crap, then so be it. Great move. [going to Netflix]No. Because you don't have to pay for it. Everybody has Netflix. You just turn it on. Oh, never mind. I'll just turn it on and see what happens.
“I'm not against it. I love Mike Tyson. The guy's almost 60, you know that? My back hurts like crazy today. It hurts like crazy. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I'm 54. This guy is 27 and in the prime of his life. It's ridiculous. I love Mike and nobody wants to see him lose to this motherfucker.”
If Tyson were to step into the ring to face Paul, it would be his first professional boxing bout since June 2005. However, he made his return in November 2020 in an exhibition bout against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr., which ended in a draw.

So far, Dana seems to be more bothered by this than anyone else, which seems a bit odd considering his former fighters and champions were fighting Jake, but it makes sense as Mike is more personal to him from a friend and fan perspective.
