The University of Oregon football team is one of the favorites to qualify for the College Football Playoff (CFP) in 2025.
The field will expand to 12 teams this season, meaning more teams will have better odds. There are only five automatic berths, awarded to the conference winners from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and SEC, as well as the highest-ranked team from the Group of Five.
The Ducks are ranked third in FanDuel Sportsbook's odds to make the playoffs at -250. Only two teams have better odds: Ohio State (-650) and Georgia (-500). With the Buckeyes and UO both ranked at the top of the league, Vegas likely believes neither team needs to win the Big Ten Conference Championship to advance to the CFP.
The rest of the top 11 are as follows:
With representatives from the Group of Five in the mix, it stops at the top 11. Liberty (Conference USA) and Memphis (American) are the most likely to be those teams, both at +600.
If predictions hold true, the CFP will be made up of five teams from the SEC, four from the Big Ten, one from the ACC, one independent team and one from the Group of Five.
However, that top 11 wouldn't be true as that group doesn't include any Big 12 teams. Utah, which just joined the Big 12 this year after coming out of the Pac-12 Conference, has the best odds at +280, followed by Kansas State (+310) and Kansas (+600). That means the actual field makeup will likely be four SEC teams, four Big Ten teams, one Big 12 team, one ACC team, one independent team and one Group of Five team.
If Oregon enters the CFP without winning the Big Ten, it will likely be seeded in the No. 5-8 range and host a quarterfinal game. Get ready for some playoff football in December in Eugene.
