Ian, do you think the Knicks will use at least one of their draft picks this offseason to acquire a young prospect, or do you think they'll trade all three picks (if you can only guess)? – @KNYT_Hoops
I've said in the past that I'd be shocked if the Knicks used all three of their draft picks, but I'm starting to think they could draft three players. How do you think the Knicks are likely to use their picks? – @NolanPReynolds
Thanks for your questions, everyone. There are still 3 weeks until the 2024 NBA Draft, so I can't say anything for sure at this point.
My guess is that the Knicks will get at least one of the three picks this year, as they own No. 24 and No. 25 in the first round and No. 38 in the second round.
ESPN and Yahoo are reporting that the Knicks are considering trading for a first-round draft pick, which would be no surprise given the team's recent history and the current state of the franchise.
As we all know, New York will be aggressively pursuing trades this offseason, so if the Knicks have an opportunity to acquire a top player who is worthy of a spot on the roster, they will aggressively pursue him.
The Knicks took that approach in the 2022 offseason. Donovan MitchellWe hope they will do so again if the right opportunity arises.
In this scenario, they would use their draft capital to make a trade. Currently, you can trade up to eight first-round picks, so it makes sense that New York would be open to moving them. The Knicks also have a history of trading picks on draft day under a team president. Leon Rose.
But I don’t get the impression they’re fully committed to moving their 2024 pick.
At some of New York's recent draft meetings, the discussion has centered around finding players who can fill holes in the draft.
After their Game 7 loss to the Pacers, there have been concerns within the Knicks about their depth going into the postseason, especially against Indiana, so recent draft meetings have focused on finding players to bolster the back end of their roster.
Are the Knicks preparing for multiple scenarios on draft night? Absolutely. NBA front offices are responsible for preparing for all possibilities in the offseason, so while the Knicks are likely discussing potential picks, they're also likely exploring trade possibilities.
However, it's worth noting that the conclusion some have drawn from recent meetings is that the Knicks will add a talented player via the 2024 draft.
