Ranked #4 by the WBO, #7 by the WBC and #12 by the IBF, featherweight Bruce “Shush” Carrington (11-0, 7 KOs) is close to a world title shot, but first he must defeat formidable opponent Jose Enrique Vivas (23-3, 12 KOs) in a 10-round bout on ESPN on Saturday at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. The Carrington-Vivas bout will serve as the co-headline for a junior middleweight showdown between Xander Zayas and former world champion Patrick Teixeira.
“Jose Enrique Vivas is a great partner,” Carrington said. “He's never been stopped. He's a really tough guy, but I like to fight tough guys. When they face me, they show how tough they aren't. I'll be the first one to stop him, and that's because I know the way I've trained, how hard I've trained and what I bring to the table. It's the same as my last two fights. It's just how I feel.”
“I'm an old-fashioned fighter. I fight to hurt my opponent. I fight to dominate my opponent in a dramatic way. That's the mentality I have. I think that's what separates the boys from the men. I think that's what separates the champions from the greats.”
