San Diego (June 3, 2024) – San Diego Wave FC and the Australian Olympic Committee today announced that midfielder Emily Van Egmont and defender Caitlin Torpay have been named to the Matildas’ 18-player roster for Paris 2024.
This will be Van Egmond's third Olympic Games but she has represented Australia since 2010, winning her first cap at the age of 16. The Australian vice-captain has more than 130 international appearances, scoring 30 goals, and has represented Australia at four FIFA Women's World Cups. Since joining the Wave in 2022, she has made 46 appearances.
This will be Torpaei's first Olympic appearance. She recently made her debut for the Australian first team on February 24, 2024. In her second appearance for the Matildas, she scored a goal for her country in the 2024 Olympic qualifiers. The 24-year-old defender joined the Wave from Melbourne City in pre-season and has made six appearances for the club.
Australia will play USA, Germany and Zambia in Group B. The women's football Olympics will be held in seven cities, with Australia playing in four: Paris, Nantes, Lyon and Marseille. Kick-off will begin before the opening ceremony, with matches starting on July 25 and finishing on August 10.
