Former Hampton Crabbers star and longtime NFL quarterback Tyrod Taylor is the top candidate for the Virginia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024.

Larsen Bowker Former men's and women's tennis coach and three-time Atlantic 10 champion.
Duane Brown He was a two-time All-ACC Football honoree and was the seventh overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft at Tech.
Dave Ciannelli He was a 20-time ACC Coach of the Year winner with the Hokies' track and field program and coached 20 individual national champions.
Brittany Pryor She was a six-time All-American with the women's track and field program and won six conference titles.
Heather Savage She is a two-time ACC champion in the 100 butterfly and a two-time All-American swimmer.
Logan Shinholser He was Virginia Tech's most decorated diver and was a four-time Men's All-American.
The class' induction ceremony will take place at The Inn at Virginia Tech on Sept. 20, and the class will be honored during halftime of the football game against Rutgers University on Sept. 21.

UVA's James qualifies for U.S. Open
Virginia golfer Ben James has qualified for the 2024 U.S. Open, which will be held June 13-16 at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.
On what is known as the “longest day in golf history,” James tied for first place in the final qualifying round at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, New Jersey.
James, a recent runner-up in the NCAA individual tournament, shot 11-under 131 after 36 holes on Monday. The top four players from the tournament advance to the U.S. Open. James shot 4-under 67 and 7-under 64.
This will be James' first time playing in the U.S. Open, and he will join a field that includes former Cavaliers and current PGA Tour players Denny McCarthy and Ben Coles.

Lynchburg drops out of Division III tournament
Lynchburg's quest for back-to-back NCAA Division III championships ended with a second straight loss to Misericordia on Monday in East Lake, Ohio.
The Pennsylvania Cougars, who earned a spot in the eight-team finals in Ohio by winning the super regional in Christopher Newport, beat Lynchburg, 3-2, and then a few hours later beat the Hornets, 5-1, to advance to the best-of-three championship series that begins Wednesday.
Lynchburg, which features several players from Hampton Roads, is off to a 2-0 start at East Lake, including a win over top-seeded Endicott, Massachusetts, in the first round.
In the second game on Monday, Tabb High School senior Nathaniel Mack pitched two scoreless innings as Lynchburg's relief pitcher.

NSU to play preseason exhibition games in Costa Rica
Norfolk State University has announced its 2024 schedule. Coming off a 9-14 season, including a 7-7 record in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, the school is scheduled to play exhibition matches in Costa Rica on July 30, July 31 and Aug. 2, marking the first time the NSU women's team will play in international competition.
The Spartans will play an exhibition match at VCU on Aug. 24 before opening the season with home tournaments against Gardner-Webb, Lamar and Miami of Ohio on Aug. 30 and 31.
