After serving in the United States Air Force in the late 1950s and 1960s, Chuck Norris began to delve deeper into the martial art of karate. He opened a martial arts studio and began training and competing in major karate tournaments. It wasn't until 1967 that he finally won the U.S. Karate Championship.He defeated seven opponents to win the championship, defended the title the following year, and retired from tournaments, where he met Bruce Lee, who became his new training partner.

American Arabesque Society, Norris started American-style Tan Su-Do in 1973.and the National Tan Su-Do Tournament, which Norris eventually spun off into the United Fighting Arts Federation (UFAF).
By evolving Tang Su Do and adding other martial arts styles, Norris created Trung Kuk Do, now known as the Chuck Norris System. For this system, Norris created his own moral code consisting of 10 rules for members to follow. Norris' United Fighting Arts Federation continues to hold tournaments and training conferences in Las Vegas and has 90 schools in different countries around the world.
