Mike Tyson has requested that his fight with Jake Paul be rescheduled between October and December.
The two were originally scheduled to face off on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
However, their bout has been postponed until further notice after Tyson suffered a recurrence of an ulcer and was deemed medically unable to compete.
At the time of writing, no new date had been announced, but Paul said Tyson has already announced his plans for his return.
“Obviously it's devastating news. Heartbroken, speechless, disappointing,” Paul said after the news of the match's postponement broke.
“you [Tyson] You said you want to do this in the fourth quarter, I'm ready, I just need a little bit of time, I'm ready whenever.
“This is a huge opportunity and I think this fight will change the world. I turn every loss into a victory and that's my motto.”
“We have worked hard at this camp and I feel bad for everyone involved in this event and the undercard. An opportunity has been taken from all of us.”
The fourth quarter is between October and December. It is highly unusual for a match to be postponed for five months.
The Arthur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol fight, which was rescheduled from June 1 to October 12 after Beterbiev tore his MCL, has now been brought forward.
Last Friday, Most Valuable Promotions released a statement saying: “The scheduled boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has unfortunately been postponed.”
“Following a follow-up consultation with a medical professional on Thursday regarding a recent ulcer recurrence, Mike Tyson was advised to complete minimal to light training over the next few weeks before returning to full training without restrictions.”
“Both Mike and Jake agree that it is fair for both fighters to have equal training time in preparation for this important match so they can compete at the highest level.”
“The health and wellbeing of our athletes is our number one priority and we fully support Mike in taking the time he needs to perform at the level he expects of himself.”
“Mike plans to return to a full training schedule in the coming weeks and is eager to return to the ring. MVP plans to reschedule the bout at AT&T Stadium later this year and we look forward to an exciting, well-prepared bout between these two outstanding athletes.”
“A new date for the match will be announced by next Friday, June 7.”
