Otto Valen was scheduled to fight Dillian Whyte in October 2021, but Whyte pulled out due to injury. Valen was upset, but Whyte was committed to a much bigger fight against Tyson Fury. Now the Swede wants to reschedule his fight with Whyte. For Valen, who is looking to bounce back from his stoppage loss to Anthony Joshua, a fight with Whyte makes sense as a comeback fight.
Wallin, whose only losses have been to Fury and AJ – two fighters who have also beaten Whyte – told Boxing Social that he and Whyte have unfinished business.
“I think Dillian Whyte is the perfect name. I want to fight him and as you know, he's back now, we have a little bit of history in another fight that he withdrew from,” Wallin said. “I want to fight him. I think he's a great opponent for me. It's the right time. I love the fight. I think it's a great style for me. He's not the fastest guy, he's pretty slow on his feet. If I can play to my strengths, I think I can overpower him.”
Wallin is coming off a tough loss to Joshua, so it will be interesting to see how much he can do at this stage. How much can Whyte do? This matchup is not the biggest fight, but it has the potential to be a good one, and perhaps a great fight on a favorable card. Could Whyte and Wallin get some of the huge Saudi Arabian money currently on offer?
Whyte vs. Wallin, with Joshua at the top of the list, would make sense as a secondary bout to the September bout at Wembley Stadium. Neither man has much time left, but a win would likely see the winner move on to another big fight.
Wallin came at Fury hard, but Whyte is always fun to watch. Who do you think would win if that were to happen?
White currently has a record of 30-3 (20), while Wallin, who is three years younger at 33, currently has a record of 26-2 (14).
