Stop the hate.
That's the message former NBA player and current NBA commentator for ESPN, Austin Rivers, sent regarding Kaitlyn Clark and how she's been treated by her fellow WNBA players.
“The hate directed at Caitlyn by Cap and some of you ladies needs to stop,” Rivers, the son of Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers, wrote on Twitter, along with a more than four-minute video scolding WNBA players for the hatred directed at the Indiana Fever star, whose team visits Brooklyn and the New York Liberty on Sunday night.
“Lbh explains why people are suddenly so interested in women's basketball. It's the Caitlin Clark effect!!! It's not just her fault, it's mostly her fault! Stop being jealous…”
In his post, Rivers also called out Chicago Sky player Chennedy Carter for shoving Clark to the floor during the Fever's 71-60 win on Saturday and then refusing to answer questions.
In the third quarter, Carter shoulder-checked Clark as he was waiting for the inbounds pass, and the whistle was immediately blown for a foul.
Carter declined to answer questions about the incident during his post-game press conference.
“I'm not going to answer any questions about Caitlin Clark,” Carter said at the podium. “I don't know what she said. I didn't say anything.”
When pressed by reporters, former Liberty star and Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon replied: “That's enough. We're OK. She's OK.”
Video of the play and the post-game press conference went viral online.
