Jake Paul said Friday that he was “heartbroken” when Mike Tyson said he wanted to reschedule their postponed fight.
The bout, originally scheduled for July 20, was postponed Friday due to Tyson's recent ulcer recurrence.
“Mike, if you want to do this like you said behind closed doors, like you said behind the scenes, I said I want to do it in the fourth quarter, I just need a little bit of time, so I'm available whenever you are,” Paul said in a video comment posted to his X account.
Q4 refers to the fourth quarter of the year, usually from October 1st to December 31st.
According to a news release from Most Valuable Promotions, which Paul co-founded, a new date will be announced on June 7. Paul has made it clear he wants to compete.
“This is a huge opportunity,” Paul said. “I think this fight is going to change the world.”
Paul also laughed at a comment his opponent allegedly made in a news release announcing the postponement.
“He still said he was going to knock me out and I bought myself some time,” Paul said with a grin, “so Mike's still out there saying (expletive).”
At the start of his remarks, Paul's tone was more subdued.
“Obviously it's devastating news,” he said of the postponement. “It's heartbreaking, I'm at a loss for words. It's just so disappointing. Everyone here in the camp has worked so hard. I feel so sorry for everyone involved with this event, everyone in the opening line-up.”
“This opportunity has been taken from all of us. I care about Mike's health first and foremost. I love Mike. I have a lot of respect for him. I want Mike to stay healthy.”
