CAPE GIRARDE, Mo. (KFVS) – The Red Hawks' run at the Fayetteville Regional Tournament will continue for another day!
SEMO Baseball, the No. 4 seed in the Fayetteville Region, faced No. 2 seed Louisiana Tech in a consolation round on Saturday. What worked in the Redhawks' favor was a lightning delay on Friday night, which forced the Kansas State vs. LA Tech game to end on Saturday morning, giving the Bulldogs team less time to recover.
The Redhawks got ahead on a two-run homer by Ian Riley to give SEMO the lead, but LA Tech's Carson Evans followed with a solo homer to tie the score at 2-1.
Still, SEMO kept the ball rolling as Riley came on again, this time with a two-run single to make it 4-1.
Finally, SEMO loaded the bases, 5 to 1. As Arkansas fans packed the stadium for the game, Razorbacks fans put on beer hats (Arkansas fans put on beer hats when the Razorbacks have the bases loaded), this time for SEMO.
Beal's hat was well deserved as Josh Cameron hit a clean ball well over 400 feet for a grand slam for the Redhawks, making the score 9-1.
SEMO beat the Fayetteville Bulldogs in a comfortable 9-3 victory over LA Tech, the team with the second-most wins in college baseball at this point. The win was SEMO's first NCAA Regional victory since 2002 and its first since coach Andy Sawyers took over.
The RedHawks' run in Fayetteville continues on Sunday, when SEMO takes on the loser of the Kansas State/No. 5 Arkansas game at Baum-Walker Stadium at 1 p.m.
