The boxing match between former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson and social media star Jake Paul, which was scheduled to be streamed live on Netflix on July 20 in Arlington, Texas, has been postponed, according to promoter Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), of which Paul, 27, is a co-owner.
MVP said in a press release on May 31 that due to Tyson's recent ulcer recurrence, doctors have recommended minimal to light training for the 57-year-old fighter over the next few weeks. The company plans to provide an update on June 7 regarding the rescheduled fight.
“Mike and Jake agree that it is fair to ensure both players are given equal training time in preparation for this important match and are able to compete at the highest level,” MVP said in a statement. “The health and well-being of our players is our number one priority, and we fully support Mike taking the time he needs to perform at the level we expect him to.”
Despite the 30-year age difference, Tyson, who hasn't fought professionally since 2005 (when Paul was eight years old), remains a fearsome opponent in the ring, including a one-sided exhibition win over Roy Jones in 2020. Paul, who has a 9-1 record, continues to perform well with three straight wins, including two by knockout, in his last three bouts.
The fight will be Netflix's most anticipated live event and will also include several undercard matches, and is scheduled to take place at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
