According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sacramento Kings and head coach Mike Brown have agreed to a contract extension through the 2026-27 season.
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported the deal is worth $30 million, adding that Brown's base salary will be $8.5 million per year, with the chance to earn up to $10 million per year with bonuses.
Brown has been the Kings' head coach since the 2022-23 season and was named the NBA's Coach of the Year in his first year in Sacramento.
Brown joined the Kings as head coach after six years as associate head coach of the Golden State Warriors. Prior to joining the Warriors, he served as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers twice (2005-2010 and 2013-2014) and the Los Angeles Lakers (2011-2012).
Last season, in his first year with the Kings, he led the team to its first playoff appearance in 16 years, coming within one win of beating the Warriors to send Sacramento to the second round for the first time since 2004.
This season, the Kings went 46-36 and advanced to the play-in tournament, defeating the Warriors in their first game before losing to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Although Brown and Sacramento missed out on the postseason this year, it's clear the team has made great strides since he took over. Prior to Brown's arrival, the Kings hadn't won 40 or more games since 2006, but with Brown on the roster, they reached the 40-win mark in each of their first two seasons.
The Kings still have a lot of work to do if they want to compete for a championship, but keeping Brown on the team seemed like a necessary step to continue their progress.
