BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Orchard Park's Carter Zakrzewski has been named Division I New York State Player of the Year for boys hockey by the New York State Hockey Coaches Association, joining nine Western New York State players in all Selected to state team.
Zakruszewski, a junior, scored 17 goals and 33 points in 25 games this season, including the playoffs, helping lead the Quakers (18-4-0-3) to the NYSPHSAA Division 1 championship game.
Orchard Park's path to the championship included defeating Williamsville North 5-1 in the Section VI title game, a hard-fought 1-0 win over West Genesee in the state quarterfinals, and defeating McQuaid in the semifinals. Including a 3-2 win. Brady Ciano had a hat trick and Zakrzewski had two assists.
However, the Quakers' rise came to a halt in the state title game, as Suffern won 6-2 in the first round and clinched the Division I crown.
