An athlete who says his passion for sport has put him on the right path is now seeking help to go professional.
Alex Andrews, 20, grew up in Long Sutton and competes as an amateur featherweight in mixed martial arts (MMA), a kickboxing-infused sport.
Although he has some sponsorship, Alex says his “life goal” is to go professional next year.
“Going to the gym every night helps me stay out of trouble,” Andrews said.
“I don't know what I'd do without it.
“Going to the gym instead of hanging out in a car park is good and gives you purpose.
“It's a part of my life.”
He started kickboxing at the age of 10 and trains regularly at Abaddon Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Wisbech with main coach Chris Errington.
Multiple trips to train at different gyms with professional coaches take time and money, and he also had to raise funds to compete at the World Championships in Albania by working in his father's plastering business.
Alex says his parents, Darren and Naomi Andrews, are “really supportive” and explains that financial support from family and friends has had a positive impact on his life through sport.
“My nutrition plan, along with pre-match accommodation, can cost up to £400,” Andrews said.
“I get a small commission but not much. I work a few days a week in my father's plastering business.”
Alex is hoping to meet the criteria to receive support from Sport England, which would allow him to train full-time in a top gym.
He said: “When you go professional you get paid for every fight and if you get to the top you get paid even more.”
“That's my goal in life.”
“It's hard to balance training with work as I only have one day off at the weekend for training.”
He also hopes to inspire young athletes to pursue their dreams.
He added: “It's a good way to keep them out of trouble.”
He is currently preparing for his Cage Warriors Academy title fight and if you know anyone who can help financially please get in touch via Alex Andrews on Facebook.
