The Boston Celtics defeated the Indiana Pacers 105-102 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals to clinch the series on Monday night and advance to their second NBA Finals in three years. Celtics guard Derrick White made a game-winning 3-pointer with 45 seconds left in the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. “I felt like I had a good opportunity, so I just stayed in to take the shot and made it,” White said. “I had a lot of misses in a row, but I was starting to get better and I was confident enough to make that one.” Boston's All-Star duo Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum combined for 55 points in the win. “The greatest gift you can get as a coach is guys who trust you and trust you to coach them. You give that to us every day, so I'm grateful,” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said. He averaged 29.8 points and shot 51.7% from the field. Brown hit a game-saving three-pointer in Game 1 and scored a career-tying 40 points in Game 2 in the playoffs. He also averaged five rebounds, three assists and two steals in the Eastern Conference Finals. “It was a real struggle. I didn't give an inch the whole season,” Brown said. “We have a lot of great guys in the locker room. They're tough guys. We have a great coaching staff and a great front office. After the game, Celtics co-owner Wyck Grousbeck dedicated the victory to Hall of Famer Bill Walton, who died Monday at age 71 after a long battle with cancer. Walton helped the Celtics win the NBA championship in 1986. “The guys aren't satisfied with this trophy. We want to go one more,” Grousbeck said. “Credit to Brad Stevens for getting some great players. We lost some great players. This whole team is a team, and that's the team the Celtics should play. Brown was named MVP. Brown averaged 29.8 points and shot 51.7% from the field in the series, including a game-saving three-pointer in Game 1 and a career-tying playoff score of 40 points in Game 2. He also averaged five rebounds, three assists and two steals per game in the Eastern Conference Finals.
“It's been a struggle up until now. We haven't given up an inch this season,” Brown said. “We have a lot of great guys in the locker room. A lot of tough guys. Great coaching staff, great front office. We're excited to take the next step now.”
