Tyson will be 58 when he fights Paul this summer, but the boxing legend has promised to turn back the clock by knocking out his influential rival.
Boxing legend Mike Tyson still has that killer instinct at 57, says his upcoming opponent, Jake Paul.
“Iron Mike” will face ring legend and YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas on July 20. Tyson has not fought since fighting fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. in a scoreless eight-round exhibition bout four years ago, but the bout against Paul will be sanctioned.
While Paul turned 27 earlier this year, Tyson celebrated his 58th birthday just three weeks before his return. The social media star has promised not to go easy on 'Iron Mike' and considers the former heavyweight champion the toughest opponent of his boxing career so far.
“I know if he had the same chance he would beat me in embarrassing fashion so I have to give back the same energy. Mike Tyson is a killer, he's ruthless, he's the most brutal champion of all time so I have to put Mike Tyson's energy into beating him and the legend will crumble,” he told TMZ Sports.
“It's crazy to even think about it, but I think the stadium could fit 90,000 or 93,000 people. It would be sold out and the viewership around the world could be hundreds of millions. It's unbelievable and it makes absolutely no sense, but the fact that Netflix is a part of this is just a perfect piece of the puzzle.”
Paul is currently the same weight as Anthony Joshua and continues to put on weight as he strives to match Tyson's weight on fight day. Although “Iron Mike” mocked Paul's build as “fat”, the influencer plans to lose weight in the coming weeks, adding that “I think I'll be able to move and dance in the ring like a real heavyweight fighter.”
“It's all good, but it was a bit of a change moving up to heavyweight. I definitely needed to put on weight so I could fight Mike Tyson and not get thrown around in the ring. We're doing heavyweight sparring and eating a lot more food.”
