A changed landscape
A lot has changed since Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) defeated Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) by controversial 12-round unanimous decision in their first bout in February 2022 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Taylor, 33, vacated three of the four belts he held at 140 pounds and also lost his remaining WBO title in a one-sided loss to Teofimo Lopez in June 2023 last year.
In that bout, Taylor looked like a faded fighter, far from the peak of his career from 2019-2021.
It's unclear whether Taylor was as good as boxing fans initially thought, given his near-miss wins over Regis Prograis and Jose Ramirez.
Catterall has fought twice since that loss, beating little-known Darragh Foley and a fading 38-year-old Jorge Linares. Catterall's promoter, Eddie Hearn, for some reason has not been keen to put him against quality opponents since the loss to Catterall, which makes me question that a bit.
