ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — New technology at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport will increase security and allow you to get through a little faster.
“We want to make sure people are who they say they are, and that's obviously important for safety,” said TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein.
Farbstein said this is the latest update to Authentication Technology (CAT). The device authenticates ID and flight details in real-time during security checks. A photo of you will be taken at the checkpoint and your ID will be scanned to ensure they match.
“This is just an extra step, cutting-edge technology to verify your identity,” Farbstein said. will disappear,” he added. Because that information is already built into the system. ”
She added that travelers can opt out of having their photo taken, but must alert officers, who will then attempt to verify their identity using the previous methods.
News 8's Oran Spitzer used the technology and was able to verify the ID and face were real and that she didn't have a boarding pass.
Fahlbstein said the technology poses no privacy risks.
“We don't store photos, so once you take a photo and verify your identity, you don't need it. So you don't have to worry about your privacy. Of course, you can opt out of having your photo taken at any time.”
The new machine will be installed before the Memorial Day weekend trip and summer vacation.
