Lyndon Arthur will return to action at Bolton on June 21st. The former Commonwealth Light Heavyweight Champion will face Liam Cameron on the Wasserman Show. The match will be broadcast on Channel 5 in the UK.
Arthur, 23-2 (16 KOs), will be boxing for the first time since losing a unanimous decision to WBA champion Dmitry Bivol in Saudi Arabia last December.
The 32-year-old remains a major player on the domestic 175-pound scene. Former opponents Anthony Yarde and Joshua Bouatsi have struggled to settle their fights, while Craig 'Spider' Richards and Willie Hutchinson are set to meet in a Queensbury vs. Queensbury match. On the Matchroom '5 vs. June 1st 5-minute card, Arthur makes his statement and he wants to remind people exactly what he's capable of.
“Cameron is hungry for this and is trying to ruin my plans, but he will never let me beat him and restart his career,” Arthur said. “It's just not happening.”
The Manchenian represents a big step up for Cameron, a former Commonwealth middleweight champion with a record of 23-5 (10 KOs), who is competing in his fourth fight since returning from a five-year hiatus in the ring. The 33-year-old was suspended for four years after testing positive for cocaine and then spent 12 months getting back in shape due to his weight gain.
“Everyone knows what I've been through, but if we pull off a big upset on June 21st, all that fighting will be worth it,” Prime Minister David Cameron said. “A win against Lyndon Arthur would take my career to a whole new level and opportunities like this don't come around very often so I'm going to make the most of it. This will be a life-changing night for me. I guess.”
Sheffield's Cameron made his return to action last October and has fought his way to the upper end of the light heavyweight division against moderate opposition but would instantly restore his reputation if he shocks Arthur.
