The official scorecard for Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk has angered boxing fans.
All eyes were on Saturday at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as Fury and Usyk entered the ring with the undisputed title on the line.
In what was an entertaining matchup, Usyk almost knocked the Brit down in the ninth round, but Fury was saved by the bell.
In the end, the fight went all the way and Usyk won a split decision, becoming the first undisputed world heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
After the fight, the official scorecards were released, with judge Manuel Oliver Palomo giving the score 115-112 in favor of Usyk, Craig Metcalf giving the win to Fury 114-113, and Mike Fitzgerald giving the victory to Fury. Usyk won 114-113.
One fan responded on social media, writing, “Another outrageous scorecard. Never in a million years would we be split on the decision. Thank God Usyk made the decision.”
Another tweeted: “Fury didn't win in rounds 2 and 12. They tried to steal Usyk but failed.”
A third fan added: “It would have been a majority vote for Usyk to have been robbed. 100% would have been robbed if he was in the UK.”
Another wrote: “It's ridiculous to think the ONE judges won an angry victory.”
A fifth player commented: “That 115-112 was a bit of a stretch…but what a fight it was. I can't wait for the rematch.”
Another fan said: “Why on earth did the judges give Fury the win?”
After the win, Usyk said: “I have been planning this since 2008. It is not for me. It is for my God, my supporters, my country, Ukrainian soldiers, Ukrainian mothers and fathers, children.
“But now I want to go home, I want to rest, I want to rest. I want to eat, I want to sleep, I want to kiss my wife.”
He added: “Yes, of course. I'm ready for a rematch.”
