Believe it or not, DeMar DeRozan played 15 seasons in the NBA. Despite his increased distance, he averaged 24.0 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds on 48/33/85 from the field this season.
DeRozan still looks like he could play five more years in the NBA, which is something he doesn't want to do.
During an appearance on FanDuel TV's Run It Back show, DeRozan talked about how long he wants to continue playing in the NBA. Although he doesn't have a firm number, he says he doesn't want to go past season 20.
“Honestly, I don't want to play for 20 years,” DeRozan said. “I don't think so. But in terms of missing the kids, I like to be normal sometimes. 20 years is a long time. I value the game too much. I don’t want to cheat.’ By the time I was 20…”
With this timeline in mind, this is likely the last contract of DeMar DeRozan's career unless it's a one- or two-year deal. DeRozan is a free agent this season, but he and the Chicago Bulls have mutual interest in re-signing him.
The way DeMar DeRozan is playing now, it feels like he can definitely reach his 20th year. But only time will tell when that final year will be.
