Last Saturday (May 11), Japan's Treasure Boxing Promotions, headed by former WBO junior lightweight champion Masayuki Ito (retired), held a show at Paradise City in Incheon, South Korea. Former world 108 pound champion, current WBA #2, IBF #4 flyweight Hiroto Kyoguchi (18 wins, 2 losses, 12 KOs, 112, surprisingly withdrawn unanimous decision (97-93 in 2 rounds, KBM) (all Korean judges 96-94) IBF #10 ranked Filipino Vince Paras (21-2-1, 15 KOs), 111.75, 10 overs Paras was more aggressive and accurate as it was a very close fight. Kyoguchi, who was less aggressive but more accurate, defended his IBF 105-pound belt against Paras by unanimous decision (117-110) in 2018, a controversial decision. In Japan, it also caused a huge controversy among TV viewers.
However, promoter Ito, who is a compatriot of Kyoguchi, supported the Korean judges' decision in favor of Paras, saying the Filipino was aggressive throughout the contest. Even now, fierce arguments continue between the pro-Taniguchi faction and the anti-Taniguchi faction.
