Sportsnet insider Elliott Friedman reports that former Detroit Red Wings forward Jeff Blashill is a candidate for the San Jose Sharks' vacant coaching position.
“I think Blashill is someone they're considering,” Elliott Friedman said on his 32 Thoughts podcast.
Two other names Friedman has linked to the Sharks job are Marco Sturm and Ryan Warsowski. Friedman said the Los Angeles Kings may be looking to retain Sturm, who led the Ontario Reign to the Pacific Regional finals. Warsowski was an assistant with the Sharks under fired coach David Quinn.

Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman fired Blashill on April 30, 2022. Yzerman and Blashill were usually on the same page. He liked the way Blashill practiced and used personnel. But after six straight losing seasons, it was almost a mercy dismissal.
Blashill served as the head coach of the Detroit Red Wings from 2015 to 2022, compiling a record of 204 wins, 261 losses, and 72 losses. He made it to the playoffs once, but lost in the first round in 2016 before the Red Wings went into full rebuild mode. Blahill has been an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Lightning for the past two seasons.
Blahill's resume also includes coaching the Grand Rapids Griffins to the AHL Championship in 2013 and leading Team USA to a bronze medal at the World Championship in 2018.
Mike Grier said the San Jose Sharks' coaching search will be a “long process.”
“We're still in the early stages and we're going through interviews, so there's not much to report on that. We're going to be thorough and it's going to be a pretty long process,” he said. he said after winning. They plan to draft Macklin Celebrini.
