AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Austin FC's Q2 Stadium will host the 2025 Major League Soccer All-Star Game, Commissioner Don Garber announced Wednesday, as the young club hosts one of the league's premier annual events. It was scheduled to be held.
The 20,738-seat, state-of-the-art stadium opened in 2021, the franchise's first year. The club has hosted games for the U.S. women's and men's national teams, including World Cup qualifiers, pre-Olympic warm-up games, and Gold Cup games. Two group games will also be held at the Copa America in July.
Austin FC has sold out 60 consecutive games, the current longest streak in MLS.
“This city has embraced this team the way we always hoped and in many ways expected it would. This is our way of saying 'thank you' to our fans. “This city has shown the world that MLS can thrive,” Garber said at the event at Antone's, a concert hall in the city's live music entertainment district. And they succeeded in a completely new market that had no history in soccer. ”
MLS became the first major professional sports league to have a franchise in the Texas capital.
The exact date of the match and the MLS All-Star team's opponents will be announced at a later date. The league will host a week-long series of events centered around the All-Star Match, including the All-Star Skills Challenge, the Developmental League All-Star Game, and concerts.
“This was one of the original visions for the club when Austin FC was officially formed, to bring events to Austin,” said Austin FC President Andy Loughnen. I have a very good opportunity to host the All-Star Game, but I have to earn it with my ability. ”
Columbus, Ohio will be the site of the 2024 All-Star event, where the MLS All-Stars will take on Mexico's LIGA MX All-Star team on July 24th.
