As the college football schedule moves from spring practice to the summer preseason, sportsbooks across the country are reevaluating not only their national championship odds, but also their projections for the total number of wins for each team on the field.
As is the case almost every season, most of the tougher schedules are within the SEC, which will embark on a historic expansion to 16 teams this fall with football powerhouses Texas and Oklahoma joining the rotation.
Here are the latest predictions for preseason win totals for SEC football teams, according to Circa Sports.
6.5 wins. Notable early games for the Wildcats include home games against South Carolina and Auburn, but they also have a game against rival Florida coming up in mid-October. If England win two of these three games, they can move closer to seven wins.
5.5 wins. The Razorbacks face one of the most difficult schedules in college football, with significant roster turnover at key positions. Arkansas will play Ole Miss, LSU, Texas, Tennessee and Missouri, and will take on Oklahoma State on a key non-conference day.
4.5 wins. First-year coach Jeff Levy brings a proven track record to the Bulldogs as an offensive game planner. The Bulldogs face a tough schedule that includes Arizona State on the road and trips to Texas and Georgia in back-to-back weeks, with Ole Miss and Tennessee also coming in late. Year.
3 wins. If Vandy can beat Alcorn State, Georgia State, and Ball State, it should match that total, but otherwise, after losing their key playmakers at quarterback and wide receiver, they certainly won't in this situation. It's hard to find things.
5 wins. Billy Napier is under pressure with a schedule that includes non-conference dates against rivals such as upgraded Miami and defending ACC champion Florida State. That's followed by tough late games against the Vols, UK, Texas, LSU and Ole Miss.
5.5 wins. Coming off a five-win season and considering major roster changes, the Gamecocks will be tested early on at home against LSU, on the road against Alabama and Oklahoma, and in the final game against Clemson. It's going to be very tough. He would need at least three wins in the SEC for Carolina to surpass this total.
7.5 wins. The offense, which struggled to move the ball through the air last season, will start with five straight games at home, including one against the Sooners before traveling to Georgia, Missouri and Kentucky.
7.5 wins. OU will need to prove itself in its SEC debut amid a tough schedule. The Sooners should be 4-0 against Houston, Temple, Tulane and Maine. Auburn and South Carolina also look like wins. But to get seven wins, they would need to beat Texas, Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, or Tennessee.
8.5 wins. Early wins against Notre Dame and Florida would be a great debut for head coach Mike Elko, and give Auburn an important road game later in the season. Overall, it's a winnable schedule with high-profile games being played at home, including the final game against rival Texas.
9 wins. Coming off an 11-win season, the Tigers return key skill players and are looking at an easier situation. Brady Cook returns as quarterback, and star wide receivers Luther Burden and Theo Weese return to the rotation. The real test will be how well Missouri can implement defensive transfers to replace lost production and maintain its dominance in conference play.
9 wins. The Crimson Tide has looked deadly since Nick Saban's retirement, but games against rivals Georgia and Alabama have gotten tougher in recent years. Nico Iamareaba has the makings of a star quarterback and has quality goals. But how well can the Vols defend him and what will the secondary look like?
9 wins. Garrett Nussmeyer replaces Jaden Daniels, and while he's not a two-way player, he has the arm and receiver to keep the offense on par. But incoming play-caller Blake Baker struggled, repairing a defense that ranked 108th nationally in total production and pass defense.
9.5 wins. Lane Kiffin did another strong job in the offseason, especially in the transfer portal in the front seven and in recruiting replacements after losing Quinshon Judkins. Additionally, the Rebels return quarterback Jackson Dart. Alabama is not on this year's schedule, but Georgia and Oklahoma are.
9.5 wins. Nick Saban's retirement comes as the Tide has a tougher schedule scheduled, including a trip to Wisconsin and hosting SEC challenger Georgia in two weeks. Karen DeBoer faces a tough second half that includes trips to Tennessee, LSU and Oklahoma.
10.5 wins. The Longhorns could also make the argument that they boast the most talented roster in the entire SEC in time for their conference debut. With another strong transfer portal and a great recruiting class, Texas is within striking distance of a title, but keep an eye out for a Week 2 road trip against a reloading Michigan team.
10.5 wins. Alabama vs. Texas is a major game, with both teams on the road and three other top-ranked opponents likely to play: the opener against Clemson in Atlanta and a trip to Ole Miss. , and a home matchup against the Vols. We expect Georgia to make the College Football Playoff, but they won't be undefeated if they get there.
