HOI NOI — The two losses to Malaysia and Kazakhstan in the opening Pool A matches of the AHF Women's Indoor Asian Cup in Thailand show that Vietnam is currently at a developmental stage in women's hockey.
Malaysia and Kazakhstan are both veteran teams and are among the top four women's teams in Asia. In contrast, this will be Vietnam's first appearance in this international tournament.

“Vietnamese players will definitely gain valuable experience at the Asia Cup,” said James Chu, CEO of the Vietnam Hockey Federation.
“They can only improve and their trajectory is heading upwards. Our goal is the SEA Games in Bangkok, scheduled for December 2025. We have a lot of work ahead of us. But you have to start somewhere.”
Vietnam continues its journey with a match against Iran on Tuesday, followed by a match against Oman on Wednesday.
Nine teams will participate in the Asia Cup, divided into two groups. The top three teams will qualify for the World Cup to be held in Croatia next February. VNS
