Some of college football's major awards will not be included in EA Sports' upcoming college football games, sources briefed on the discussions confirmed. The Athletic. On3 first reported the news.
Mark Wolpert, president of the National College Football Awards Association, a federation of many of the sport's individual awards, told On3 that EA's offer for the rights to include the award in College Football 25 is “not good enough.” Wolpert was open to the possibility of being reconsidered and included in future editions of the game if EA changes its offer, but the following awards will not be included in this year's game:
- Bednarik Award (Best Defensive Player)
- Davey O'Brien Award (Top Quarterback)
- Doak Walker Award (Top Running Back)
- Jim Thorpe Award (Top Defensive Back)
- Outland Trophy (Top Interior Lineman)
- Lou Groza Award (Top Kicker)
- Ray Guy Award (Top Punter)
Although the Heisman Trophy is independently administered by the Heisman Trust, there has been no official announcement from EA or the Trust regarding Heisman participation. Representatives for the Heisman Trust could not be reached for comment.
Other awards such as the Butkus Award (Top Linebacker) and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (Top Defensive Player) are also not part of the NCFAA, but it is not yet clear if they will be included in the game, details of which remain Ahead of its revival for the first time in more than 10 years, the actual situation has been kept strictly secret. College Football 25 includes several awards, and more may eventually be included in future games, officials said.
Wolpert did not provide details on EA's proposal to the NCFAA, but told On3 it is a “nominal increase based on 2014 numbers” when the game was last released.
In previous versions of EA's College Football video game, users who played Season or Dynasty modes, or players created in Road to Glory or other similar game modes, were unable to play the postseason in December of each year. I was able to collect trophies that were earned and given out during the game.
Earlier this week, EA Sports announced that over 10,000 players (nearly 90% of the roster that will be available in the game) have officially opted into the game. Multiple reports this week reported that Texas quarterback Arch Manning is opting out of the game. Manning is perhaps the most notable player to have refused to join the team.
Players who opt into the game will receive $600 and a copy of the game. Some athletes receive additional compensation as ambassadors for the game.
