The Vegas Golden Knights met with the media today to discuss this season and the future of the franchise. One player whose future is uncertain is Jonathan MarchessaultAccording to Jesse Granger of The Athletic, Marchessault told the media that he spoke with Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon earlier in the day and both parties said there was mutual intent. He is reportedly interested in considering an extension to keep the 33-year-old in Las Vegas.
The Conn Smith Trophy winner from last year's Stanley Cup is one of only five players remaining from Vegas' first season in 2017-18, and he has 417 points in seven seasons with the team. He is now the Golden Knights' all-time points leader. Both sides have interest in contract extensions, but the Golden Knights are pushed to the edge of the salary cap and have several key free agents, including: chandler stevenson, william carrier, Alec Martinezand Anthony Mantha.
Other notes from the Golden Knights read:
- vegas defenseman Nicola Haag He reportedly has a lower body injury, but will not require surgery (per Sin Bin Vegas). Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon told the media that the 25-year-old is healthy and should be available by the start of next season. Haig was injured in Game 1 against the Dallas Stars and was unable to play the rest of the series. Haig took his physicality to another level this season, racking up 153 hits in just 73 games. The Kitchener, Ont., native didn't do much offensively, struggling without a point in his final 20 games.
- Sinbin Vegas also reported that Kelly McCrimmon provided an update on the goalie's status robin lehner. McCrimmon told reporters that if Lehner is unable to play next season, he will remain on long-term injured reserve. McCrimmon went on to say that there's a good chance Lehner won't be able to play, and given that Lehner missed the past two seasons after undergoing hip surgery and hasn't played since April 2022, this news doesn't make much sense. It's not surprising, he added. Lehner has one year left on his contract and his $5 million cap hit would allow Las Vegas to exceed that cap if he remains on his LTIR.
