For nearly a decade, Bates Taekwondo has focused on Albuquerque as a great place to practice martial arts. The local program helped bring the U.S. Western Regional Taekwondo Qualifiers to Albuquerque for the first time.
The qualifying round will be held from May 10th to May 12th. At this event, participants will compete for a spot in the 2024 U.S. Taekwondo Championships to be held in July.
Chee Bates, owner of Bates Taekwondo, said the qualifier will give Albuquerque taekwondo students the opportunity to compete in their home state against talented martial artists from states such as California and Texas. “It's great to see kids compete at a high level,” Bates said.
Ryan Araujo is a black belt instructor who has been studying at Bates Taekwondo since it opened about nine years ago. This martial artist is a great example of the immense talent gained from Bates Taekwondo training. Araujo says what he learned from Bates not only made him a better athlete, but a more well-rounded person.
Bates said, “What sets us apart is that I train everyone, I push everyone, and I want everyone to be the best they can be.” To learn more about Bates Taekwondo, click here.
