UWS introduces Bre Simone as new women's hockey head coach
For 21 seasons, the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) women's hockey team was led by one coach: Dan Laughlin. The Yellow Jackets, who retired after last season, were scheduled to host a press conference for Bre Simon on Tuesday to introduce their next bench boss.
“I'm a young coach now, a head coach, and I think that helps me and them. They know I've been in their shoes,” Simon said of his future team. . “I graduated in 2020, so it wasn't that long ago. I know what it means to be an athlete, a student, a worker, have a job, etc.”
Simon brings a wealth of experience behind the bench. She comes to UWS after spending two years as an assistant coach at Elmira College, which finished runner-up in the NCAA DIII Championship last year.
She also coached high school hockey at Gentry Academy in Minnesota for two years, leading the school to two state championship appearances.
“It was clear that winning was an important part of her experience as both a player and a coach,” said UWS Director of Athletics Nick Bursik. “Coach is deeply committed to the development of her players and teams, and her drive for athletic success will certainly benefit her past experience, but will also be an asset to our student-athletes and program going forward.” I guess.”
Simon is a native of Elk River, Minnesota and a graduate of Hamline University Women's Hockey. She graduated in 2020 and remains the team's all-time leader in goals (92), assists (93) and points (185).
UWS finished 8-18-1 in the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament last season.
