Butler Deku Hockey players can keep their sticks ready, as the town board has confirmed that the rink at Butler Township Park will remain in place.
“Nothing is going to happen to that hockey rink,” Commissioner James Lockyerhiser said during the Monday, May 6, commissioners meeting.
The town took to Facebook Thursday to express concern over rumors circulating that the Deku hockey rink will be replaced with additional pickleball courts.
“This rumor is completely false and has no basis in fact,” the post said. “It's unclear where this information came from, but it's not actually happening.”
Despite the social media outburst, Butler resident Rodney Zaliponi asked commissioners about the situation at the Deku hockey rink.
“How's the situation with Deku Hockey?” Zaliponi asked. “There are a lot of rumors going around.”
Lokiahisel not only dispelled the rumors, but also hinted at the possibility of the town building additional rinks in the future.
“In fact, we are discussing the possibility of purchasing another Deku Hockey,” he said. “That Deku hockey rink is not the standard size, so the tournament cannot be held because it does not meet the standards.”
Even if a new rink is built, Lokiahisel assured Zariponi that nothing will happen to the current hockey area.
be put up for auction
Commissioners unanimously voted to put the police city van and pickup truck up for bid.
Lochierhiser said residents interested in bidding can fill out the necessary paperwork at the town building at 290 S. Duffy Road.
The vehicle will be sold to the highest bidder, and the money will be returned to the town's general fund, Lochierhiser said.
