BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — West Virginia Tech University (WVU TECH) will host Camp STEM for high school students in June 2024.
The event will be held from June 9th to 14th, during which time students will be able to stay on campus. Students interested in attending camp must submit an application and deposit by May 12th at 4:30 p.m. Students will move into the dormitory on June 9th and move out on June 14th.
The camp allows students to take a variety of STEM courses, participate in experiments, and explore STEM careers. Her WVU Tech professors in the fields of engineering, science, mathematics, and forensic investigation will lead the classes. Classes include, but are not limited to, electronics, robotics, automotive, and forensic investigation.
Counselors for the week-long program will be seniors at WVU Tech majoring in biology, chemistry, engineering and mathematics. They live in dormitories with students, giving them a more accurate idea of her pursuit of a STEM education at the college level, and specifically at WVU Tech.
Participants work with STEM faculty on fun activities, work in teams to complete engineering design projects, and learn about college life. Industry partners work with students to chart career paths and provide difficult problems for students to solve. The goal is to develop a passion for STEM fields and explore different career paths. Additionally, students find fun and joy in meeting new people with similar interests.
