Norwegian ice hockey star Alexander Reichenberg has died at the age of 31.
This sad news was confirmed on the Lillehammer Ice Hockey Club website.
In an emotional statement, they described Reichenberg as one of the greatest talents of all time.
He had an illustrious international career working professionally in the Czech Republic, Sweden and Austria.
Reichenberg played for the national team from the U18s to the A team.
In 2018, he represented Norway at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
According to Lillehammer's website, Reichenberg had his best season to date, scoring 44 points in the regular season.
He also led the team as captain in the final campaign.
The statement continued: “He will no longer be able to hear the clever shouts of the crowd at Aidshiva Arena, and those of us sitting in the stands will no longer be able to see the players' big smiles, extra feints or big moves.'' According to reports, Reichenberg is in talks with other clubs interested in signing him.
Last week, nitten.no revealed that it had spoken to Valerenga and that there was interest from Denmark, Slovakia, Austria and France.
Lillehammer said in a statement: “After the good season that has just ended, Alexander has attracted the well-deserved attention of some of the biggest clubs in Norway and abroad.
“Of course, offers from his parent club are also being considered and he will weigh a new professional offer abroad against a job, club games and a fulfilling life with friends and colleagues at Lillehammer. I wanted to spend time on that.”
