Luis Suarez scored a hat-trick for Inter Miami on Saturday, but it's not that impressive feat that's garnering attention. Instead, Lionel Messi once again dominated the headlines with an incredible performance.
With the 6-2 victory over the New York Red Bulls, Messi broke two MLS records. “I don't think we'll ever see something like that again,” Miami head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino said, according to MLS.
The World Cup-winning Argentine became the first player in the league to have five assists in a game, and his goals and assists made his six-goal contribution in a game at Chase Stadium the most in league history.
Last week, Messi set two more MLS records in Miami's win over the New England Revolution.
He has now scored and assisted in six consecutive league games, bringing his total this season to 10 in eight games, level with Suarez. No player in MLS has contributed more than Messi's 12 assists this season.

Messi and Suarez formed a great partnership during their time at Barcelona, and they smoothly transferred that understanding onto the pitch when they played for Miami.
Miami went into halftime trailing 1-0, and New York took the lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Dante Vanzeer. However, after the break, substitute Matias Rojas scored the equalizer in the 48th minute from a through ball from Messi.
After giving his team a 2-1 lead, Messi was substituted three times by Suarez and then by new signing Rojas, who finished the game with two goals. Emil Forsberg scored the winning goal in the 97th minute.
Miami remains in first place in the Eastern Conference and will next face CF Montreal on May 11th.
