On Friday, the Jefferson Forest boys soccer team made school history with its 11th straight shutout with a 7-0 win over Visit Liberty.
This tied the school's program record for most consecutive shutouts and tied the record set in 2006 when current head coach Scott Zehring was the team's goaltender.
Zaring wants his team to be proud because it's a team effort, not an individual effort.
“They were hunting it,” Zaring said. “They take every game as a done deal.” [when it’s over] And they haven't put a lot of equity into it. They understand that in soccer, goals are scored against opponents. They know they can get scored on, so if they get scored on, it's not the end of the world. But with this record, they're going to be locked in a little bit more, and that's great. ”

JF came close to achieving the record of 11 consecutive shutouts in 2003 and last season, but the streak stopped at 10 in both years.
The chance to break the record will come on Tuesday in a fitting match against rivals EC Grass. The teams will face off at Lynchburg City Stadium starting at 7 p.m. JF won their first game of the season 4-0 on April 12th at Saber Stadium.
The JF women's soccer team also defeated Liberty on Friday, improving to 11-0. The Cavaliers have allowed only three runs this season. When the Hilltoppers and Cavaliers met for the first time this season on April 12, JF won 1-0.
Appomattox man pitches another no-hitter.
Appomattox pitcher Paisley Mann pitched his second no-hitter in a week on Friday, adding further honor to his team's impressive pitching performance this season.
Mann won 10-0 in five innings against visiting Gretna, striking out 13 of the 20 batters he faced, walking four and throwing 53 of his 85 pitches for strikes.
The sophomore also pitched a seven-inning no-hitter on April 26, just one week before Friday's no-hitter, and had 15 strikeouts in that win. She is currently 6-0 with a 1.43 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched.
Appomattox (14-2) has had several standout performances in the circle recently, including sophomore Chloe Vaughn's no-hitter on April 15 and senior Bree Carrico's complete game on April 24. are benefiting from.
Since losing 4-0 to Halifax on April 6, Appomattox has won nine straight. The Raiders' pitching staff has won eight of those games.
Singler up 2 after opening round at Fox Puss
Scott Singler, who always seems to be in action this time of year at Boonsboro Country Club, shot a 5-under 66 in the opening round of the Fox Pass Invitational on Friday, beating Justin Young by two strokes. Made a difference.

Reigning champion Logan Riley shot a 1-over 72 and was one of six players three strokes back of the lead at the end of the round. Former Jefferson Forest standout Garnet Manley III was one of four players with two overs, and New Covenant's Luke Libby was three overs.
In the senior division, Steve Serrao shot a 2-under 69 to take the lead with a one-shot lead. Serao finished with five birdies and three bogeys.
In the Super Senior Division (65+), Shannon Sanders, Mark Alonge and reigning division champion Bart Allen all entered the clubhouse at even, one stroke behind David Partridge.
The second round is scheduled to begin with the first wave at 7:30 a.m., followed by tee-off for the second wave at 12:30 p.m.
No.13 LSU 4, Liberty 0
The Lady Flames' offense outplayed the Tigers in Baton Rouge, La., looking for a win for their return to at-large in the NCAA Tournament, but LSU overcame the Tigers by two runs in the final two innings to take the lead. After that, it didn't come close. Won the first game of the weekend series.

FIU 10, Liberty 7
In Lynchburg, Liberty and FIU combined for 17 points on 25 hits, but the Panthers outscored the Flames and won the first game of Friday's doubleheader.
The Panthers exploded for six runs in the sixth inning on three hits, three walks, one error, and one hit by a pitch, pushing their lead to 9-1. Liberty took the lead in the ninth inning on back-to-back RBI triples by Todd Hudson and Noah Raybon, and got a few runs back in the closing minutes, but the Flames had the last of 13 baserunners left in the final slot.
The Flames were led by Hudson's three hits and three RBIs, while leadoff hitter Kane Kepley added two hits and two runs scored.
Liberty starter Cole Hartzler (5 IP, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 Ks) took the loss, evening his season record at 5-5.
Friday's nightcap was originally scheduled for Sunday, but the game was rescheduled due to possible inclement weather and ended after press time.
Cannon Ballers 12, Hillcats 6
The Kannapolis Cannonballers tied their series with the Hillcats this week, scoring seven runs in the fourth inning to start the game past Lynchburg.
Kannapolis scored six of its seven points with two outs in the first, helped by two errors made by the Hillcats in the frame. Lynchburg's Kyle Scott took the loss, allowing seven runs (one earned) in just 2/3 innings worth of work.
Lynchburg's offense, which had two hits by Tommy Hawk, Wilfredo Antunez, Esteban Gonzalez and Manuel Mejias, and had 11 hits of its own, left 11 men on base by evening.
