Oneida | The Indians ended the regular season Thursday with a 4-1 win over Kearns on Senior Night at Jane Terry Hoffman Field.
Levi James scored two goals, Mason Keaton and George Klein each added a goal, and Oneida was never seriously threatened by the Beavers.
Keaton scored a goal in the 12th minute off an assist from James, making the game 1-0. At the midway point of the first half, Klein scored on an assist from Kaiden Krahn to make it 2-0. Coach Derek Keaton called the goal “literally beautiful.”
In the second half, Krahn committed a foul in the box and James converted a penalty to make it 3-0.
Kearns finally came on to make it 3-1, but Keaton assisted on James' goal to make it 4-1 with 10 minutes left.
“I can't say enough good things about Reese Kennedy, Wyatt Yancey, Ashton Moreland, Myles Luxton, Josh Cole. And how they made Culmus' shot easier for Ty Duncan to handle. Were you able to hold onto it?'' Keaton said. “Ty played great in relief of Gavin. The whole team is really supporting Ty now, all of us, including Gavin, are coaching him and helping him, and he wants to be a good goalkeeper. I really want to, and he does.”
“It was a really good win against a good Kearns team,” Keaton said, adding the team is gaining momentum heading into the district tournament. Oneida will host the winner of Eagleton and Greenback on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
