NBA
PHILADELPHIA — Knicks fans didn't take over the Wells Fargo Center.
But they stole the victory.
Amidst chants of “Let's Go Nix!” Let's go Knicks! ” Late in the game, the visiting team came from behind to win Game 6 of the first round, 118-115, eliminating Philadelphia and giving fans the right to celebrate. And smile.
No, it wasn't as spectacular as Games 3 and 4, when they dominated the Wells Fargo Center.
The sight of orange and blue and the voices of rowdy New Yorkers so embarrassed Philadelphia that star Joel Embiid naturally blamed his own fan base.
“It was disappointing. I love our fans. I think it's unfortunate and I'm not blaming them, but it's disappointing,” Embiid said.

“Obviously there are a lot of Knicks fans and they always will be. I've never seen them, but they've been here for 10 years. Yeah, especially since Philadelphia is considered a sports city. It's a little frustrating. They keep showing up. I don't think that should happen.”
According to TNT, the Sixers have been calling season ticket holders for the past two days to come to the venue and speak loudly.
And the 76ers' current and past owners purchased thousands of tickets to distribute to local residents to avoid a repeat.
Former minority owner Michael Rubin said he was working with 76ers owners Josh Harris, David Blitzer and David Adelman to help “first responders, medical professionals and other Philadelphia-based They announced that they had purchased “more than 2,000” tickets to give to local organizations. ”
It worked pretty much all night.
But that wasn't the case when it mattered.
Vivid Sheets Fan Forecast uses proprietary data to predict that just 15 percent of Thursday night's audience were Nick fans. But it was a minority who got the last laugh.
A small “F. Embiid” chant from Knicks fans followed early on, but it was drowned out by a loud response of “F. the Knicks.”
Embiid was mainly greeted with cheers of “MVP!” MVP! ” by a local partisan crowd.
And while on the floor, the center appeared to be in a completely dominant role. He scored a team-high 39 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds before fouling out.
But when Jalen Brunson's 3-pointer with six minutes left gave the visiting team a 101-95 lead, chants of “Let's go Knicks!” erupted. It got louder and louder in the last few minutes.
When Brunson came into the lineup, 111-108, with 53 seconds left, it was the Nick guard who called out “MVP!” MVP! ” from New Yorkers coming down the Turnpike and boarding the train.
Then, when Jason Hart made a game-tying 3-pointer with 25 seconds left, a pocket of Knicks fans erupted and most of the building fell silent.
Although the Knicks fans weren't as loud in Game 6, their presence was still felt.
A roar of laughter could be heard from Knicks fans after Hart hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 25.1 seconds left to give the Knicks a 114-111 lead.
In addition to the chants, Knicks fans could be heard singing “Na na hey hey, kiss me goodbye” as Knicks fans took over the arena concourse.
When asked about winning in front of a hostile crowd, Tom Thibodeau mischievously asked:
“Philadelphia is a great sports city, great. I coached here a few years ago and their fans are great. It's a great basketball city in terms of a great professional team with a lot of history, so it's a great atmosphere.
“And of course, I think we have a lot of fans here as well, partly because of our proximity to New York. We feel like we have the best fans in the world. They travel well, so we I'll go with you wherever I go, but it was great to play in that atmosphere where there's so much passion among the fans.”
Warning: Profanity
Knicks fans also celebrated the home win in New York City, chanting “FK Embiid” outside Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks will next face the Pacers in the second round, who finished their series with the Bucks in six games on Thursday night.
Game 1 is scheduled for Monday night at Madison Square Garden.
