BISMARCK, N.D. — A new chapter in the North Dakota State rivalry begins this week between the Bismarck Bobcats and Minot Minotaurs. However, it's not just about beating your biggest rival.
The Bobcats and Minotualos are competing for a spot in the Robertson Cup Championship. Minot easily defeated the Austin Bruins in the Central Regional semifinals, and Bismarck came from behind to defeat the Aberdeen Wings for the first time in five games. The Bobcats are excited to showcase this historic rivalry in the playoffs.
“I like playing against them,” head coach Layne Sedevi said. “I thought we played well against them all year. They're a good hockey team and so are we. When you look at the one and two seeds, everyone has that You say that's the way it should be, and some years it works out that way. That's what happened this year. I basically had to take four days off and go back to work, which is the greatest in junior hockey. I think it's one of our biggest rivals, so it's going to be a great series.”
“They're a pretty tough team to play,” forward Patrick Johnson said. “We've played hard against them all year. We've had some really good games against them. They're thoroughly deep. They get the puck deep, they make plays, they're skilled players. But to be honest, if we play within our organization and play to the best of our ability, I don't really think there are any teams that can play with us. ”
Bismarck and Minot will compete in Game 1 of a best-of-five series Friday in Magic City.Puck drop is set for 7:35 p.m.
