On Thursday, BYU made an offer to Southern Utah offensive line transfer Austin Liusa. Since entering the transfer portal, Leausa has received competing offers from Baylor, Houston, USF, Fresno State, Old Dominion and Tarleton. He has two years of eligibility left.
Leausa, who attended West Jordan High School, moved around a lot during his young college career. He signed with SUU out of high school as a member of the 2017 signing class. He did not play for SUU until 2021 during the shortened spring season. He appeared in all four of SUU's games as a true freshman and did not count toward eligibility that season.
In the fall of 2021, Leusa played in seven games for SUU. He played a total of 325 snaps per his PFF and his pass blocking grade was 83.6. Following his year at SUU, Leausa transferred to Utah State.
In 2022, Leausa did not appear in a game for the Aggies. After the 2022 season, he returned to SUU for the 2023 season and was a starter for the Thunderbirds.
The offensive line is BYU's top priority during the spring transfer window. “Number-wise, we’re a little behind on the O-line right now,” Roderick said on the final day of spring training. “We like the guys we have right now, but we're just missing a few more guys. If we can find an offensive lineman or two, we'll do it.” [add them]. ”
BYU returns three starters on the offensive line in Connor Paye, Waylin Lapuajo and Brayden Keim. Caleb Etienne also returned for his senior season after an up-and-down year in and out of the starting lineup. BYU has at least one or two spots for him in the starting lineup to fill that portal. Leusa will have a chance to compete for the final starting spot at guard.
Leausa comes from the SUU offense, which is very similar to the BYU offense. If he commits to BYU, his experience with the SUU offense will give him a chance to acclimate quickly.
Stay tuned for updates on the spring transfer window in the coming days.
