Battery recycling in Ontario, Canada, is accelerating after Call2Recycle and Electronic Distributors International introduced new battery sorting technology, making EDI the only provider in North America using the technology.
The X-ray technology, located at EDI's facility in Orillia, Ontario, is one of four types of X-ray technology in the world. press release Said.
A company representative told E-Scrap News that the batteries will go through an X-ray scan to determine the battery's chemistry before being discharged into a suitable container.
The Call2Recycle program collects all types of household batteries weighing up to 5 kilograms, as well as e-transport batteries. This new technology is designed for small, disposable batteries such as AA, AAA, 9V, AA, AA, and button cells, and will reduce the volume of batteries supplied by the Call2Recycle program by 80%. ~85%.
The equipment will double the factory's production capacity and allow it to process up to 500 kilograms of batteries per hour. It also reduces the risk of safety incidents.
“Increasing the precision of the process also significantly reduces potential risks associated with chemical cross-contamination,” the company said in a written statement.
Joe Zenobio, president of Call2Recycle Canada, said in a press release that the organization is “proud to work with a forward-thinking organization like EDI that drives innovation and positive change in the recycling industry.”
“Innovations like this not only enhance efforts to strengthen Ontario's battery recycling infrastructure, but also help improve efficiency by supporting the collection of larger quantities of batteries,” Zenobio added.
EDI is partnering with Call2Recycle starting in 2022 to better recycle batteries in Ontario. He has three facilities in Ontario.
