Former Florida State football quarterback Marcus Outzen, who started for the Seminoles in the first-ever BCS National Championship Game, has died. Outzen's death was announced by his son and later confirmed by the Tallahassee Democrat.
Auzen died from complications associated with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, a rare immunodeficiency disease, the magazine reported.
The quarterback, affectionately nicknamed “Rooster,” spent five seasons with the Seminoles' program under head coach Bobby Bowden from 1996 to 2000, when starting quarterback Chris Weinke After suffering a neck injury, he earned notable playing time late in the 1998 season.
Florida State was in the national championship race at the time, and Ouzen started the final two games of the year, both of which were crucial to that cause, defeating Wake Forest and defeating rivals in the finals. defeated Florida, which was ranked 4th in the league.
