Detroit Pistons general manager Troy Weaver had an expletive-laced response to a fan who jeered in the stands and pointed him out to security at Little Caesars Arena.
Footage of the heated exchange was shared on social media during Detroit's 142-124 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night.
“You threatened me,” an unidentified man was seen on video telling Weaver.
Weaver declined to comment Sunday.
Jeffrey Callaway, a 46-year-old season ticket holder from Detroit, said he was sitting near Weaver when fans approached the team's general manager twice, but he was then taken away.
“The guy involved in the incident came in wearing a Red Wings uniform and was pointing at the scoreboard early in the game,” Callaway said in a phone interview Sunday. “Troy Weaver just shrugged his shoulders and said, 'Okay,' and the guy went back to his seat.
“when [Jalen] Duren was sent off. [midway through the fourth quarter], the guy came back and said his job was terrible. Troy Weaver then told fans they had to leave, and that's when ushers and security arrived. ”
Fans were removed from the seating area by security.
Detroit set a single-season league record with 28 consecutive losses earlier this season, and entered Sunday tied with Washington for the league's worst record.
The Pistons gave Weaver his first opportunity to become a general manager. Over three seasons under him, the team has a record of 70 wins and 229 losses.
