Posted by Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James on Xformerly on Twitter, posted on Tuesday to provide an update on his future amid numerous reports that came out in the wake of the Lakers' playoff elimination on Monday night.
James released a statement declaring that no decision has been made yet and that his priority is now to spend time with his family.
“I have seen and heard many reports regarding my future,” James wrote. “I said it last night and I'll say it again. I don't know yet because all I care about is spending time with my family and friends! I'll find out after I talk to my family, my lawyer, and my representative.” That way, everyone will understand. ”
James has the option to opt out of his current contract with Los Angeles and become an unrestricted free agent. That would allow him to sign a new contract with the Lakers, which would likely last him until retirement, but he could also leave and sign with a new team.
Alternatively, James could take part in the final year of a contract that pays him $51.4 million in 2024-2025. He will be eligible for a two-year contract extension in August that will pay him an additional $112 million from 2025-27.
James has made it clear that he has not yet decided on his next steps after his 20th NBA season and plans to speak with his agent before making an announcement.
