Alex Perez reminded the flyweight world that he's still plenty dangerous.
Perez, who suffered back-to-back losses to the likes of Deiveson Figueiredo, Alexandre Pantoja and Muhamad Mokaev, knocked out Mateusz Nicolaou on Saturday night in the headliner of the special UFC on ESPN 55 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It made a big comeback. Ending a three-fight stall, Dana White's Contender Series alum has moved up to No. 11 in the latest flyweight rankings.
It was the second consecutive setback for Nicolau, who was previously ranked No. 8 in the world, after the Brazilian won six consecutive professional matches from May 2019 to December 2022. As a result, the 31-year-old Nova Uniao export has fallen from the top spot. 10th place, 12th place, one place behind Perez.
Elsewhere, Karine Silva earned a hard-fought decision victory over Ariane Lipski on Saturday, giving her four straight wins in UFC competition and nine wins overall. With this performance, the Brazilian gained the 15th place in the women's flyweight rankings.
