Francis Ngannou experienced a parent's worst nightmare.
On Monday, Cameroonian news outlet 237 Online reported that Ngannou's 18-month-old son had died. The exact circumstances of the tragedy are still unknown, but MMA Fighting officials confirmed the news. Ngannou has not spoken publicly about the incident, but he has taken to social media to express his sadness.
What is the purpose of life if what we are desperately trying to run away from is what ultimately hurts us the most?
Why is life so unfair and unforgiving?
Why does life always get us what we don't have?I'm fucking tired— Francis Ngannou (@francis_ngannou) April 29, 2024

It's been a tough few days. Words cannot express the pain we all feel for the Ngannou family during this time. Please keep Francis and his family in your thoughts and may this remind you of the fragility of life. Say “I love you” more often, tomorrow is not guaranteed. ❤️ https://t.co/V6QVzbXKVi

Ngannou, a former UFC heavyweight champion, became one of the biggest stories in the martial arts world last year after making the transition to boxing and finding great success. 'The Predator' nearly upset lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in his professional debut, even knocking down the undefeated boxer in a 10-round fight. Ngannou was knocked out by Anthony Joshua in the second round of their fight in March, and his sophomore fight was less successful.
Ngannou's efforts in mixed martial arts and boxing have made him a beloved figure in the martial arts community, but in the face of such a tragedy, the mixed martial arts community joined him in mourning the terrible news on Monday.
