LAS VEGAS – Don'Tail Mays has a plan after raising his hand at Saturday's UFC on ESPN 55.
Mays (11-6 MMA, 4-4 UFC) moves into the heavyweight win column with a unanimous decision win over Caio Machado (8-3-1 MMA, 0-2 UFC) at UFC Apex. I have returned. A crucial first round knockdown tipped the scorecards in his favor.
Mays is frustrated that he wasn't able to get the job done sooner, but knows it was important to get the win after a lethargic performance in a loss to Rodrigo Nascimento in November.
“When you don't get the finish, you feel a certain way, but it could have been worse,” Mays told MMA Junkie and other reporters after his fight at UFC on ESPN 55. ” he said. It feels good to win. He was much more durable than I expected. ”
Mays, 32, admitted he had a “little scratch” after his 15-minute battle with Machado, but that wasn't enough to stop him from seeking an early return to competition.
The UFC is hosting an event in Mays' hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, on June 8th, and Mays is eager to qualify for that card.
“I hope to be able to compete at UFC Louisville, it’s home,” Mays said. “I haven’t fought there since my pro debut, but I’m hoping I can get into it. Maybe about six or seven weeks.
“(I) will fight anyone.”
