CASPER, Wyo. — Casper University's Gabriel McVay recently signed a letter of intent to continue his soccer career at Providence College.
McVay, a starting center midfielder for the Casper University women's soccer team, scored one goal during the season. Still a freshman, McVay was determined to take it to the next level. According to assistant head coach Jocelyn Norcross, McVay had too many credits in his high school career to remain with the T-Birds for another season.
Newcastle High School's Eastern Wyoming College Outreach Program allowed McVeigh to take college courses and earn college credits from EWC while in high school.
“She has made huge improvements in the year since coming in and having to adapt to a fast and different playing style than she did in high school. Gabby's fun personality, work ethic and leadership will be missed next year. She is a good student and hopes to become a doctor,” Norcross said.
McVay, the daughter of Newcastle's Brian and Bethia McVay, will play for the Argos, a member of the National Intercollegiate Association that plays in the Frontier Conference. Under head coach Heather Blandford, the team finished the 2023 season with a record of 2-12-2 overall and 1-9-2 in conference play.
